Saratoga officials selected a Casper‑based waste hauler to remove scrap metal from around the sewage lagoon.
During the April 1st Saratoga Town Council meeting, Public Works Director Emery Penner announced that a significant amount of scrap metal has built up near the town’s sewage treatment lagoon over the years. Unable to simply give the scrap away, Penner said he requested bids from contractors to remove the metal.
The sewer lagoon is located approximately one and one-quarter miles north of Saratoga, on the west side of Highway 130. The facility is used to treat the town’s sewage through natural biological processes, where bacteria break down organic waste in the water, converting harmful substances into carbon dioxide and other safe compounds.
Contractors were given until March 19th to submit bids to remove “all metallic material” from the designated areas around the sewer lagoon. The town did not guarantee the value, composition, or amount of metal present at the site.
At the April 1st meeting, Penner said one company, Imperial Sanitation, offered the town $100 for the scrap metal. The public works director said the price seemed fair, adding that the contractor must transport the material nearly 150 miles back to Casper, and asked the governing body to approve the bid.
The Saratoga Town Council unanimously voted to award the contract to Imperial Sanitation. The hauler has until April 30th to remove the scrap metal from the area around the sewer lagoon.
