Saratoga has been voted “Best Tasting Water” in Wyoming for 2023.

During the annual conference of Wyoming’s licensed water and wastewater operators in Casper, the town of Saratoga was chosen as having the best tasting water in the state. Saratoga Water and Sewer Supervisor Chuck McVey said the Wyoming Association of Rural Water Systems conference was well attended. However, McVey said he wasn’t sure how many towns competed for the title.

Saratoga receives its drinking water from five wells east of town. McVey said he doesn’t do anything special to the ground water. The water supervisor said he simply adds a little chlorine into the system to fight bacterial growth. McVey said the town’s water met the subjective criteria of the five judges. He explained what the judges looked for.

The next step is for McVey to represent the town in the National Great American Water Taste Test in Washington DC next February.

This won’t be the first time Saratoga has represented Wyoming on the national stage. In 2018 the town was also awarded the best tasting water in the state. McVey attended the competition in DC, but he said he doesn’t remember what place the town came in. Only that Saratoga was in the top ten.

McVey said he isn’t a one man show. His fellow water and sewer operators deserve just as much credit.

McVey said he will take Water and Sewer Operator Brandon Mistelske with him to Washington, D.C. in February. As of the reporting of this story, the National Rural Water Association has not said what day the competition will be held.
