South Central Wyoming EMS will begin a series of Emergency Medical Responder classes next month in Saratoga. SCWEMS Director Stayton Mosbey said the Emergency Medical Responder, or EMR, class will teach people advanced first aid techniques. Mosbey said law enforcement officers and fire fighters will benefit from the EMR training.

Mosbey said over the course of 50 hours, from February 6th through March 9th, EMR class attendees will be taught how to stabilize an injured person. The SCWEMS director said the course isn’t as demanding as traditional Emergency Medical Technician, or EMT, certification.

It costs $400 to attend next month’s EMR training course. Mosbey said the fee covers all books and other materials needed for the class. Mosbey said current SCWEMS volunteers can attend free of charge. The SCWEMS director said the towns of Encampment and Riverside are offering free tuition for residents.

Mosbey said prior first aid knowledge is not required. The SCWEMS director said anyone can become an EMR.

Classes are Tuesday and Thursday nights, from February 9th through March 6th at the Saratoga Ambulance Barn, located at 1402 South River Street. Three Saturday classes will also be required.
