South Central Wyoming Emergency Medical Services is still struggling to hire a new director.
Last August, the South Central Wyoming Emergency Medical Services Joint Powers Board announced that Director Stayton Mosbey would resign the following month. Mosbey had led SCWEMS since December 2021, guiding the organization through staffing challenges and budget shortfalls.
During the April 20th SCWEMS Joint Powers Board meeting in Hanna, Riverside Mayor Leroy Stephenson said Mosbey appears to still be involved with the organization and asked what role he currently holds. Joint Powers Board Chairman Morgan Irene responded that Mosbey continues to help SCWEMS pursue grants and recruit a new director.
In the meantime, Chairman Irene said Deputy Director Shana Romero is running SCWEMS while the joint powers board searches for Mosbey’s replacement.
Later in the meeting, Mayor Leroy Stephenson noted that in February the SCWEMS Joint Powers Board announced it had identified a candidate to fill the director position. Chairman Irene said the person took another job, adding that another applicant believed the position could be done remotely while holding a second job. EMT Kyle Warren said other applicants either failed to appear for their interviews or did not meet the required qualifications.
According to an online job forum, the SCWEMS director would earn between $50,000 and $70,000 a year and receive benefits including health, dental and vision insurance, paid time off, a retirement plan, an employee assistance program, a flexible schedule, a uniform allowance and life insurance. Despite those incentives, the SCWEMS Joint Powers Board said finding qualified candidates willing to live and work in Carbon County has been difficult.
