The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will delay the start of the 2023 shed horn collection season.

In a statement, officials with the state’s big game agency said the usual May 1st start date for shed horn collecting has been pushed back to May 15th.

According to the statement, harsh winter conditions have left the animals more susceptible to human interference. People roaming through their territory will put an already at-risk population under unneeded additional pressure.

Carbon County isn’t the only area experiencing the delay. A map provided by Game and Fish shows the boundary extends to the western border of the state and north past Pinedale. Teton County will open without the added two week wait.
