Five county and municipal agencies responded to an early morning structure fire in Rawlins.

Around 4:00 am, Thursday morning, the Rawlins Fire Department received a call of a fire at the 600 block of East Cedar Street. Battalion Chief Allen Robinson said by the time firefighters arrived on the scene, the structure was engulfed in flames. Battalion Chief Robinson said the fire took longer to extinguish because the building was too dangerous for firefighters to enter.

Battalion Chief Robinson described the structure as a 6,000 square foot mechanical shop.

The battalion chief said the fire was contained by 6:00 am. Robinson said firefighters continued to put out hot spots until 10:30 am. No injuries were reported.

Battalion Chief Robinson described the agencies that worked together to put out the fire. Robinsons said five trucks, from three different departments, responded to the emergency call.

Battalion Chief Robinson said 15 firefighters in total, from Rawlins, Sinclair, and Carbon County, fought the blaze. The battalion chief said the cause of the fire is known, but he is unable to release any information at this time. Robinson was able to say the fire was accidental in nature.

Battalion Chief Robinson acknowledged the outside agencies that assisted in putting out the fire.

No other structures were affected by the blaze. The Rawlins Fire Department is conducting the state-required investigation.
