The Snowy Range Road, Wyoming 130, closed for the season on Sunday.

WYDOT ongoing drifting and blowing snow has put an end to plowing for the season. The gates to the high-country scenic byway are now closed and locked until springtime next year.

Also known as the Snowy Range Scenic Byway, the 12-mile section of WYO 130 tops out at more than 10,800 ft. in elevation and closes annually each fall when deep snow accumulations make plowing the highway impractical for the few drivers who might venture the drive.

The road is closed from mile markers 36-48, from the Green Rock trailhead in the east to just above Ryan Park in the west.

The Snowy Range Road stayed open two weeks longer this year after closing on November 10 last year.
