The road from Pic Pike Road leading into the Saratoga cemetery will be closed later this week for much needed repairs.

The road is rough and badly potholed. The Saratoga Cemetery District is responsible for maintaining the cemetery and the roads that lead into it. Cemetery District board secretary and treasurer Suzie Cox said the road will close this Thursday, August 3rd, for repairs. Cox said Rodney Bennett, of Rod’s Backhoe Service, has agreed to perform the road work.

Cox said Bennett owns the property the road is on, while the cemetery district owns the road itself.

Cox said the cemetery district has been planning the road improvement project for over five years. She said Saratoga Forest Management was inadvertently contributing to the road’s poor condition. Cox said the project took so long because the cemetery district couldn’t convince the users of the road to help pay for the improvements.

Cox said the cemetery district uses a small amount of tax money to fund their projects. With many cemetery improvements on the horizon, Cox said the road was the project that needed immediate attention.

Bigfoot99 asked Cox how much the road improvement project will cost. Cox said she wouldn’t know for sure until work began. She said Bennett will provide the cemetery district with a price after he sees how much work will be involved.

Cox said the southern entrance road into the Saratoga Cemetery will be closed from this Thursday until the following Sunday or Monday. She said the road will only reopen after the work is completed.

Cox assured residents that they will be able to access the cemetery while the road improvements are underway. She said the north entrance to the cemetery, along Cemetery Road will remain open to traffic.

Cox said the gate on the north entrance is typically closed to prevent deer from getting into the cemetery. While the southern route is shut down, the gate on the north road will be open for easy access.
