In Cheyenne, state lawmakers adopted a compromise two-year budget for 2027-2028 and sent it to Governor Mark Gordon on Monday.
The Legislature’s recommendation for state spending is $53 million below the governor’s original recommendation announced in November. In general funds, the budget includes an expenditure of $3.4 billion, and in total funds, the budget includes $9.98 billion.
Senator Tim Salazar, R-Riverton, called for the vote on Monday. Only three members voted “no.”
Following the vote, Senate President Bo Biteman thanked his leadership team.
Governor Mark Gordon called the passage of the budget bill “a win for Wyoming.”
The Governor also thanked members of the state house who resisted the steep cuts made by the Joint Appropriations Committee, which was dominated this year by the conservative Freedom Caucus.
The budget passed Monday is $53 million below what the Governor called his “back-of-the-napkin calculations.”
The House adopted the compromise budget recommendation 59-1 on Monday.
Governor Gordon called his final budget bill “an amazing victory.” The Governor will have 72 hours to take action on the bill, either approving it or making line- item vetoes.
