In Elk Mountain, three men are in custody after leading Wyoming Highway Patrol on a wild chase through the town on Tuesday afternoon.

The school was locked down and residents were asked to shelter in place while Highway Patrol troopers searched for multiple suspects. Brett Larson said he, like other residents, received a reverse-911 call at home from town to shelter in place while the manhunt unfolded.

Larson said he was told the three suspects fled from their vehicle and escaped into town. He said 30 minutes after being ordered to stay inside and lock his doors, he was informed the suspects had been apprehended. Larson said the manhunt was intense.

According to Elk Mountain Elementary teacher Annie Lamoureux, the school was locked down for nearly an hour while Highway Patrol scoured the area.

Larson said one of the fugitive suspects was taken into custody near his home. He said the massive dragnet was an unusual occurrence in a town of less than 200 people.

Calls to the Wyoming Highway Patrol have not been returned at this time. We’ll have more information as it is released.
