The Teton County coroner yesterday announced the autopsy results in a murder case that captured national attention. Gabby Petito, a 22-year-old New York woman died of strangulation, the coroner reported.

Her body was discovered during an extensive multi-state search in remote northern Wyoming along the border with Grand Teton National Park. Her traveling companion, Brian Laundrie, is the primary suspect. He remains missing after returning home to Florida without Petito.

Coroner Brent Blue said Petito died two or three weeks before her body was found on September 19th. The case attracted national attention after police body cam video was released showing the pair on August 12th after being pulled over near Moab in a traffic stop. Petito appeared upset and emotional in the video.
