Three University of Wyoming swimmers died in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 287 in northern Colorado on Thursday afternoon.

The three were identified by the university on Friday morning as Charlie Clark, Carson Muir and Luke Slabber. UW swimming coach Dave Denniston told SwimSwam.com the team is “devastated” following the deadly crash.

The Colorado State Patrol said the crash happened Thursday afternoon around 2:45 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 287 and Red Mountain Road, northwest of Livermore in Larimer County.

In addition to the three students killed, according to CSP, two others had minor injuries. The three who died were 18, 19 and 21 years old.

Denver’s 9 News reporter Jennifer Meckles reported live from the crash scene on Thursday night.

UW president expressed his condolences in a written statement. “We are heartsick at the news of this terrible tragedy for our university, our state, our student-athlete community and, most importantly, the families and friends of these young people,” Ed Seidel said in a release. “Words are insufficient to express our sadness.”

Governor Mark Gordon issued a statement Thursday night, saying he was heartbroken to learn about the tragic death of the three students.
