The Platte Valley Helping Hands is looking for volunteers to help prepare and serve Thanksgiving meals.

The Platte Valley Helping Hands was formed in 1997 to provide the needy and elderly with food and medical equipment. Every year, Helping Hands volunteers cook free Thanksgiving meals for Platte Valley residents. Helping Hands board member Susan Dyer said the organization was forced to stop offering in-person dining when COVID hit. Dyer said after three years of only offering food deliveries, Helping Hands is ready to invite people to sit and eat together. Dyer said she expects this Thanksgiving to be larger than average.

Dyer said Helping Hands board members and volunteers will prepare typical Thanksgiving food, such as turkey and mashed potatoes. She said her organization needs volunteers to help cook and serve the food. Dyer asked people to let Helping Hands know they wish to help as soon as possible.

Dyer said Doug and Kathleen Campbell, from Hotel Wolf, donated turkeys for the Thanksgiving meals.

The free Thanksgiving dinner isn’t the only assistance that Platte Valley Helping Hands offers. Dyer said the organization also provides free medical equipment rentals, such as crutches and knee scooters, to residents. Dyer said on average, Helping Hands assists two families a week.

Dyer said to call her to volunteer for the Platte Valley Helping Hands Thanksgiving dinner. She said volunteers are needed to prepare and serve the meals.

The Platte Valley Helping Hands “Free Thanksgiving Dinner” begins at noon on Thursday, November 23rd, in the Platte Valley Community Center. Home deliveries will begin at 11:00 am.
