A strong winter storm which developed in the mountains of California over the weekend is expected to impact the high plains of Wyoming later today and tomorrow. The cross-country storm will then unleash a blizzard across the Northern Plains and leave parts of the Northeast with wintry weather later in the week.

The exact track and snowfall details of the storm as it moves through Wyoming became clear by Monday morning. Forecast modeling shows Carbon County, including Arlington, Rawlins and Saratoga, will receive around six to eight inches of snow on the low end and maybe as much as a foot of snow.

Interstate 80 will bear the brunt of the storm with blizzard conditions now forecast from Elk Mountain to the Carbon/Albany County line.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Brandon Wills said snow will develop over Carbon County in the late morning Monday.

Strong winds, blowing snow, and bitterly cold wind chills around zero or below are likely.

Weather impacts in the Snowy Range and the Sierra Madre Mountains will be severe with one-to-two feet of fresh snowfall expected over the next 24 to 36 hours.

To our east, blizzard conditions are expected from Douglas to Torrington Wyoming, and across western Nebraska.

All of Carbon County, from Baggs to the Shirley Basin are under a Winter Storm Warning from 11 a.m. Monday to 5 p.m. Tuesday.
