Wyoming matches up with Top-25 Colorado State in a big conference showdown for both teams.
The young Cowboy team comes into the contest after Tuesday night’s 81-65 loss at San Diego State. Wyoming holds a 10-9 overall record. They’re 3-3 mark in conference play.
When the subject of tomorrow night’s game came up at the end of the post-game interview Tuesday night, Head Coach Jeff Linder was short and sweet.
The Cowboys, with a win-loss record that sits right on the bubble, are looking for a breakout game. Wyoming is shooting just under 40 percent from behind the arc to lead the Mountain West and rank number-nine in the nation. Over the last two games, the Cowboys have hit 22 three-pointers.
CSU has the attention of national reporters, but their conference record is the same as Wyoming’s 3-3. The Rams are 15-4 overall, but those early season wins may be misleading.
Colorado sports writers are disappointed by CSU’s lack of aggressive play in conference matchup, especially away from Moby Arena. The Rams loss by 13-points — 77-64 – on the road at Nevada on Wednesday night. Wyoming beat Nevada in Laramie on Saturday 98-93.
Defensively, Nevada limited Colorado State to just 39.3 percent shooting from the field, and 26.1 percent from behind the arc, marking the second lowest clip from behind the arc that the Rams have posted in a game this season.
Colorado sportswriters complain that CSU doesn’t have the mental toughness to make the key play when they need it.
The Rams still have road trips on the schedule to The Pit in Albuquerque and to Viejas in San Diego. So they’ll be looking to make a splash in Laramie tomorrow to steal a road game.
Wyoming is looking to spoil the party and get above 500 in conference play.
Both teams have a lot to prove. It should be a good one as both the Cowboys and the Rams try to get over the 3-3 conference hump and capture Border War bragging rights.
