Mountain West Basketball Tournament: UNLV survived a gutty Wyoming comeback effort in Las Vegas Thursday with 73-70 opening round win in a game that went down to the wire.
The game was tied at 68 points apiece with less than a minute to go after the Cowboys roared back after being down 13 at the half.
Keith Kelly had the call on the Wyoming Sports Network. The Cowboys abandoned the three-point shot in the second half after trailing the Rebels by seven points at the break.
Despite the valiant comeback, a shot for the win in the closing seconds fell short in the loss.

The Cowboys had a decent look but the putback was blocked by UNLV’s Tyron Jones as the games slipped out of Wyoming’s hands.
Following the game Assistant Coach Nick Whitemore, who drew up the scout on the game, talked about the tough loss.
Whitemore called the Cowboys a special team to coach with the mix of seasoned veterans and younger players with brilliant futures ahead of them.
The Cowboys are 18-14 overall and won five of the last seven games to close the season.
Wyoming will now wait for a possible post-season bid outside the NCAA Tournament.
Freshman Gavin Gores put up 15 points. Freshman guard Nas Meyer had 14. Sophomore Damarion Dennis added 13.
UNLV scored the final five points to hang on an survive.
