The Wyoming Cowgirls rallied back in the fourth quarter to defeat Air Force 66-63 Wednesday night inside the Arena Auditorium.

It wasn’t easy and it wasn’t pretty. In a physical, hard-fought game that featured 14 lead changes, Wyoming shot 66.7 percent from the field in the second half while holding the Falcons to 33 percent in the second half.

David Settle had the call as the Cowgirls improved to 6-1 in conference play on the season, 11-and-7 overall. The Falcons lost their third straight contest and fourth in their last five games.

After being down by five points at the half after the Falcons went on a 12-2 run, Wyoming outscored Air Force 17-13 in the third quarter and 15-11 in the fourth. Alyson Fertig led Wyoming with 21 points. Malene Pederson added 15. Emily Melama scored six points, including a coast-to-coast layup off a steal to tie the game at 47 with 2:46 on the clock in the third quarter.

The Cowgirls ended up with nine big points off 12 Air Force turnovers on the night.

Head coach Heather Ezell said the Falcons always bring an extra level of pressure and fight. They never give up.

With last night’s win, the Cowgirls are still tied for first place with UNLV in the Mountain West. The Wyoming women now head out on the road for a pair of games, including a contest Saturday against Fresno State.
