The tension inside the Arena Auditorium Saturday afternoon was high until the final minute of Wyoming’s 66-62 win over Air Force.

Wild twists, runs, and clutch plays were part of the mix.

Wyoming jumped out early, building a 35–25 halftime lead. The Cowboys capitalized on Air Force turnovers and hustled on the boards to build the lead.

Air Force freshman Kam Sanders buried four three-pointers and scored 16 pointers in the second half as the Falcons fought back and took a 62-59 lead with less than two minutes remaining.

Wyoming’s Nasir “Naz” Meyer came up clutch. Driving to the basket with just 35 seconds to play, Meyer drew contact, converted the and-one play, and put the Cowboys in front by two— a lead they would not relinquish.

Wyoming added free throws to lock down the 66–62 win, holding Air Force scoreless in the final minute.

The Cowboys struggled from the field, shooting 35 percent and were 7-of-28 from behind the arc, only making two in the second half. Air Force shot 49 percent from the field and 44 percent from behind the arc with eight makes. The Pokes shot 81 percent from the line going 13-of-16 and scored 22 points off 15 of the Air Force turnovers. UW held a 39-36 advantage on the glass.
Sophomore Damarion Dennis led the Pokes with 16 points and three assists
Head Coach Sundance Wicks expressed disappointment with his team’s performance, saying that the Cowboys “snuck away with the win.”

The Cowboys close the home portion of the schedule on Tuesday hosting Nevada at 8 p.m. We’ll have the game for you, starting with the pregame show at 7:30 tomorrow night.
