The short-handed Wyoming Cowboys came out strong in the second half last night inside the Arena Auditorium to defeat South Dakota Mines 80-59.

Freshman Cam Manyawu recorded a career-high 20 points. Sam Griffin added 17 points and tied a career-high with eight rebounds.

The Cowboys were short two guards for the game. Brendan Wenzel and Kobe Newton couldn’t play because of illness.

Senior guard Aquel Kot, who transferred to Wyoming this season from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, has played against the Hardrockers in the past. Kot said he had a good idea of what they were going to do.

Kot added 15 points in 38 minutes on the floor.

Head Coach Jeff Linder said his team responded well to the adversity of begin without Wenzel and Newton and found a way to win.

The Cowboys improved to 5-3 on the season with the win. They’ll return  to action on Saturday hosting Stephen F. Austin at 2 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium. Tip is set for 2. We’ll be on the air at 1:30 with the pregame show.
