Down by a dozen points in the first place showdown, The Wyoming Cowgirls fought back in Las Vegas but fell to UNLV 58-51 Wednesday night.

Tied 15-15 after one, the Cowgirls trailed by just one point at the half, 27-26. The Lady Rebels commanded the second half as the Cowgirls struggled from the arc. Wyoming shot 2 of 19 from three-point range. The Rebels out-rebounded Wyoming 37-30.

Wyoming also had 11 turnovers.

The Cowgirls drop out of a first place tie in the Mountain West. UNLV improves to 8-1. The Cowgirls drop to 7-2 and into a second-place tie with New Mexico at the mid-point of Mountain West action.

Heather Ezell said her squad played strong defensively, but they just couldn’t hit the shots the needed.

Wyoming ended up shooting 44-percent overall. The Lady Rebels committed just three turnovers on the night. UW had a 36-30 edge in points in the paint.

The Cowgirls return home now after back-to-back games on the road. Wyoming will host Nevada at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 3.
