The Wyoming Cowgirls defeated San Diego State 72-55 Wednesday night propelling the UW women to their first 4-0 start since the 2016-17 season.

The Cowgirls went on a 17-2 run in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Although the Aztecs only lead came early in the first quarter, they kept the score close until Wyoming broke the game open in the fourth.

Head Coach Heather Ezell said the Aztecs kept it close until Wyoming finally got stopped on the defensive end.

The Aztecs dogged the Cowgirls into the third quarter, hitting tough shots and tying up the game.  Wyoming clung to a 51-48 lead going to the fourth before the Cowgirls pulled away with big shots from Allyson Fertig and Tess Barnes.

Surprisingly, the Cowgirls finished the night without a single free throw.

The Cowgirls will enjoy a “bye” weekend and before returning to action next Wednesday, January 17 with a trip to New Mexico.
