The United States Forest Service rescinded fire restrictions on the Medicine Bow-Route National Forests on Wednesday.
Recent wet weather, from snow on top of the Snowy Range to rain at lower elevations, allowed for officials to remove recent restrictions at the end of the hot, dry summer season.
Areas involved include areas on both sides of the Wyoming-Colorado state line. In Wyoming, restrictions have been lifted across a wide area, including Albany, Campbell, Carbon, Converse, Crook, Natrona, Niobrara, Platte, and Weston counties. Restrictions were also lifted in Grand, Jackson, Moffat, Rio Blanco, and Routt counties in northwest Colorado.
The U.S. Forest Service advises that best practices for campfire safety include making sure that campfires are thoroughly extinguished before leaving a fire unattended. Even if your fire is a relatively small warming fire, the fire should be dead-out before you leave the site.
