Saratoga officials are preparing to select a new recreation director.

In August, Saratoga Recreation Director Carter Edwards submitted his letter of resignation. He had served as the town’s recreation director since the fall of 2024. Edwards left the position to join the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office as a detention deputy at the county jail.

Assistant Recreation Director Emelia Anderson was appointed to serve as the interim director while the town searched for Edwards’s replacement.

At the October 7th Saratoga Town Council meeting, Mayor Chuck Davis announced that the town would stop accepting applications for the recreation director position on Saturday, October 10th. Mayor Daivs said at that point, three people had applied.

The mayor asked the governing body for authorization to establish a hiring committee consisting of Public Works Director Emery Penner, Recreation Department member Megan James, Platte Valley Community Center Director Joe Elder, and Carbon County School District Two Superintendent Darrin Jennings to review the applicants.

The Town Council unanimously voted to allow the mayor to form the hiring committee and Mayor Davis announced that he would begin interviewing applicants shortly after the October 10th deadline. The matter is likely to be discussed during the upcoming October 21st Saratoga Town Council meeting.
