In Rawlins, police are waiting for an autopsy report to provide answers about a man found dead in the city on Monday.

The investigation began when Rawlins police received a call of a dead body on the ground in a lot near the corner of Koontz and McMicken Streets.

The cause of death was not immediately apparent. Police Chief Mike Ward said investigators are waiting on the results of an autopsy.

Although Chief Ward did not release the name of the victim, he confirmed that deceased man is from Rawlins and has family in town.

Chief Ward said without an obvious cause of death, an autopsy is required to verify how the man died. Chief Ward said no weapons or drug-related items were found near or on the body.

Witnesses said the area was cordoned off as police searched for evidence in the vicinity where the body was found on Monday.
