The city of Rawlins honored the Carbon County School District Number One recreation board with the January Community Builder Award.

Every month, the Rawlins Volunteer Committee chooses a person or organization to receive the Community Builder Award. Volunteer Committee member Mike O’Brien explained that the award is given to people who work to make the city a better place to live. O’Brien said this month’s Community Builder Award goes to the Carbon County School District One recreation board.

CCSD One recreation board member Brook Mruzek accepted the January Community Builder Award on behalf of the school district’s rec board.

Rawlins Public Information Specialist Mira Miller read from a speech she prepared for the event. Miller said the district one recreation board ensures that all students are provided with the proper level of physical activity.

Miller said the CCSD one rec board members listen to their neighbors and help people within the district. Miller also said the district one recreation board financially supports various city-based organizations and events.

CCSD One rec board member Mruzek was presented with an honorary plaque and a $100 check. Miller said the rec board will need to decide how to spend the award money.
