If you decide to take advantage of the opening of the Snowy Range Road, don’t be surprised to see people sipping beers as they walk the streets of Laramie during the day. Starting on Thursday, open containers are allowed in certain parts of downtown during the summer months.

From 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., visitors and residents can purchase alcoholic beverages from licensed retail liquor stores, pop the top and enjoy in the fresh air. Over a dozen businesses are participating in open container promotion this summer.

There are dos and don’ts, like no drinking in cars, alleyways or outside the designated area. The open container area includes bar area down around Grand Avenue, Ivinson Street and Garfield between First and Fourth Streets. It extends as far north as University Avenue and as far south as Custer Street. A map is available so you don’t wander outside the legal zone.
