The Town of Saratoga Recreation Department and the Platte Valley Kiwanis Club teamed up on Sunday to host a winter festival.

More than 100 people turned out of for the fun and games at the kid-friendly event on Veteran’s Island that included hot chili, ice skating, and a fire pit.

Kiwanis member Barbara Youngberg described some of the fun activities available at the festival.

The food was free of charge at the three-hour event.

During the winter festival the Platte Valley Kiwanis Club sold raffle tickets for a pair of University of Wyoming themed corn hole boards. An event volunteer member won the raffle but gave the prize to an attendee from Colorado. The man accepted the gaming set and donated an unspecified financial gift to the Kiwanis club out of gratitude. According to Kiwanis member Cindy Carnes about 30 raffle tickets were sold.

The ice-skating rink on Veteran’s Island appears to be a big hit with the town’s youth. The rink was packed with skating kids during the entire winter carnival. Kiwanis members said the rink appears to be used on a regular basis even when a special event isn’t taking place. Donated ice skates are always available for free at the ice rink. The Saratoga rec department also has skates to rent for the season.

Sunday’s winter festival was the last community event the rec department and Kiwanis have planned for this winter. The ice rink will remain up until it starts to melt.
