Carbon County officials are looking to update the eleven-year-old Land Use Plan. Residents with strong ties to the area are asked to help shape the document’s update. The county’s Planning and Development Director, Sarah Brugger, said the document functions as a roadmap for future land use, helping to manage growth and development. Brugger said county officials use the plan when evaluating development requests.

Brugger said the previous Land Use Plan is ready for an update. The planning and development director said circumstances in Carbon County have changed since 2012 and a revised plan is needed.

Brugger said she is looking for eight to ten county residents to create a Land Use Plan steering committee. She said the committee members will provide input to the engineering firm hired to update the plan, Y2 Consultants. Brugger said steering committee members will be expected to attend a certain number of in-person and virtual meetings.

Brugger said a good steering committee member would be a local resident who cares about the development of unincorporated areas in the county. The planning and development director said The Board of Carbon County Commissioners will make the final decision on who is on the steering committee.

Brugger said applications for the Land Use Plan steering committee can be found at www.carbonwy.com. She said people can submit their completed applications in person, at the Carbon County Planning and Development Department located in the Carbon Building at 215 West Buffalo Street. Brugger said applications can also be submitted online by emailing her at sarahbrugger@carbonwy.com.

The deadline for Land Use Plan steering committee applications is June 28th. Brugger said a date for the first steering committee meeting hasn’t been set.
