Saturday’s matchup between Wyoming and Air Force is a tale of teams. The 5-0 Falcons are rested and ready after enjoying a bye week. The 5-and-1 Cowboys are banged up and battered after last week’s showdown win over Fresno State. The Pokes will enjoy their respite next week. Right now it’s crunch time.

Coach Craig Bohl talked on Monday about the physical and psychological challenges his team faces getting ready for this week’s showdown with Air Force.

The big question hanging over the Cowboys heading into the Air Force game is the status of Harrison Waylee, who emerged after sitting out the first two games of the season as Wyoming’s premier running back. Waylee’s long-distance touchdown runs of 62, 75 and 46 yards against Texas, App State and New Mexico broke the backs of the opponents. Waylee may see some action this week in Colorado Springs after being helped off the field due to a hard hit in the fourth quarter against Fresno State.

The coach said even if Waylee is ready to play, running backs Sam Scott and Jamari Ferrell are likely to see action since they saw reps in practice on Tuesday.

Last year, Wyoming defeated Air Force in Laramie 17-14. The Falcons lead the competitive series 30-to-27 with three ties over the decades of this storied rivalry. Air Force has won two straight at home in the series dating back to 2017.

Coach Bohl clicked through the challenges the Air Force option offense will pose this week.

Meanwhile, the Wyoming defense was ranked #1 in the league going into the season. So far this year, the Wyoming offense has scored just enough to take advantage of the strong defensive unit. The Cowboys are pegged as a 10.5 point underdog by the oddsmakers in Las Vegas. We’ll see.

Kickoff 5 p.m. here on Bigfoot 99 with the pregame show launching at 3:30.
