Encampment’s gardening club will honor veterans with a plaque commemorating their service and sacrifice.

This Saturday, outside of the Grand Encampment Museum, the Dirt Diggers Gardening Club will dedicate a memorial honoring all U.S. servicemen and women. Vice President of the Dirt Diggers Club Vonda Wieburg described what the memorial looks like.

The blue star memorial program was started by the National Garden Clubs to pay tribute to our armed forces. Saturday’s dedication marks the 12th blue star memorial in Wyoming. Wieburg said she wants to spread the word about the memorial. The Dirt Diggers vice president invited veterans to attend the ceremony.

Wieburg said Barb Yates, Blue Star Program chair from the Wyoming Federation of Garden Clubs, will be the master of ceremonies.

Along with chairwoman Yates, Wieburg said the memorial dedication will be attended by several dignitaries, including Encampment Mayor Shannon Fagan. The Dirt Diggers vice president said the event has been in the works for a while.

The blue star memorial dedication is this Saturday, June 24th, at the Grand Encampment Museum. The ceremony begins at 11:00am. Afterwards, the Dirt Diggers Gardening Club will hold a community picnic at the park next to the museum.
