A planned power outage will turn out the lights in Encampment, Riverside and surrounding areas at the south end of the Platte Valley this afternoon.

Joe Parrie with Carbon Power and Light said in an email that three-hour outage Monday afternoon will allow crews to replace voltage regulators and associated equipment at the substation. The work of swapping out old gear with new technology will require the substation to be taken offline.

Parrie said the replacement is part of Carbon Power and Light’s commitment to providing safe and reliable electricity to the Upper Platte Valley. Today’s outage is scheduled from 2 to 3 p.m. Saratoga should not be affected.
